Tent City Peace Movement
September 25 2006 the Richmond CA community responds to rising homicides and daily shootings by pitching tents in trouble spots around the town and telling the armed youth “we love you, we want you to live”. For over 30 days, in four locations this message was repeated around the clock. There were no homicides in the community while the tents were up.
The Tent City Peace Movement was born.
Some of this is documented on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WV2YhQSDuw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDFPPO78p2A
September 25 2007 on the first anniversary the tents rose again, this time for one week and the healing continues.
The Tent City Peace Movement is in the process of organizing itself into a not for profit citizens initiative. Touchable Stories is honored to act as the fiscal agent during this period.
The official Tent City Peace Movement www.tentcitypm.org is under construction.
Touchable Stories will be introducing the Tent City Peace Movement to Boston MA, the home of The Bobby Mendes Peace Legacy as part of ongoing Peacemakers Dialogs in early 2008.Tent City has much to share.
